This year I am helping out with the Unitarian Sunday School (or RE for Religious Education in Unitarian speak) again at the First Unitarian Universlaist Society of Albany (FUUSA). I am helping with the 5th / 6th graders on the Neighboring Faiths curriculum where we study other religious faiths and go on field trips. Our first field trip was to a black gospel church less than a block from FUUSA. Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Albany, NY. =0=

They were quite welcoming. It was really a great experience as they really do rely on music and active particpation. In many ways their service was the exact opposite of Unitarian services which can be very quiet, reserved, and intellectual. I took pictures of the black gospel church above and FUUSA though I had taken better pictures previously. Unitarian / Universlaist Church, Albany, NY. =0=
At work many people brought in plants and it made a more comfortable environment for many of us, BUT we had an extreme outbreak of fungus gnats. They look a lot like tiny fruit flies, but they instead live mostly on fungus, bacteria and algae in damp, decaying soil (i.e. house or office plants that are over watered). People were directed to take their plants home (which most did) or put them on a table in the hallway. I have little room in my house for more plants nor did most of the people who I gave plants to so the table (shown here) is almost exclusively my plants or plants that I have given to others (many had also taken plants home so didn't have room at home either). I ordered Gnatrol a bacteria that evolved to poison fungus gnat larvae as well as other insect larvae (any insect that is foolish enough to eat them). Below are pictures of one of my tires which I was checking the air pressure (done monthly) when I noticed a surprisingly large hole. I took it straight to Walmart's for a new tire which was OK as I needed to get new tires on that side before the inspection a few months later. CommerceHub Gnat Outbreak. =0=

They had a pumpkin carving contest where each department was given a pumpkin to carve and then they were judged at the Haloween party on the morning of Haloween as they did last year. There were some amazing entries. Development (my department) was not very enthusiastic and our entry was a cookie monster pumpkin (below) which was done my Andy and Adrian. Quality Assurance (QA), our sister department involved most everyone in their department and had an awesome entry (as usual) with a pumpkin carousel taht was lit and spun (also below). We were also encouraged to wear costumes to work. I had worn my full dress gray uniform from West Point. I wanted to wear something different so wore my fatigues as adapted for Lt. Col. Blake from the Mash TV series. I got the prize for most original which surprised me. The other winners were way awesome as were many others. CommerceHub Haloween Celebration.

They also had an ample supply of apple cider and apple cider donuts. Yummy. CommerceHub Haloween Celebration. =0=
